An off-duty paramedic died following a collision with a 16-year-old driver on New Year’s Day.
Dru Randolph, 47, of Delhi, suffered fatal injuries after fire and EMS responded around 3 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a crash on Highway 17, and found the body of their colleague and friend, a press release from Northeast Louisiana Ambulance Service said.
Randolph was also a lieutenant with the Vicksburg Fire Department in Mississippi and was set to retire this month.
The collision occurred when a 16-year-old male in a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck crossed the center line into the oncoming lane of traffic, and struck the 2012 Ford Focus driven by Randolph, according to Louisiana State Police. Both vehicles left the road and came to rest in a ditch.
The 16-year-old suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Franklin Medical Center. Alcohol is not suspected in the crash, which is under investigation.
