Kingston, TN : One dead, one hurt in Poplar Creek crash on Tuesday, 20th March 2018
One person was killed Tuesday morning when a vehicle ran off Poplar Creek Road and became submerged in the water.Early reports indicate the victim, a male passenger whose identity is being withheld, was buckled into the backseat, making extrication difficult.
The female driver of the Mazda 3 was injured in the crash and taken to an area hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown.
Reports from the scene indicate the car was traveling north on Poplar Creek Road when it slid off the road and over an embankment into the below creek.
Upon arrival at the scene, Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Joseph and Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Nathaniel Crow jumped into the frigid waters to save the pair.
Roane County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Boduch was called to the scent to verify that the passenger was deceased.
The THP is investigating the cause of the accident and assessing whether charges will be filed.
