Pine Bluff, AR : Officials ID child killed in crash on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016
One person was killed and four others injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 65 south Saturday morning.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Phillip Cummins Jr., 6, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Margaret Shell-Howsen at 7:50 a.m. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma.According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Cummins Jr. was a passenger in a 2006 Dodge Durango driven by Phillip Cummins, 28, of Pine Bluff, that left the roadway and struck a guardrail at the Cottondale overpass at about 6:23 a.m.
A passenger in that vehicle was ejected and struck by another vehicle, but the report does not indicate that Cummins Jr. was that passenger.
In addition to the driver, Matina Cummins, 30, and two minors of unknown age were injured - all were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Trooper First Class Dustin Thompson reported that it was raining and the roadway was wet at the time of the accident.
The death was the 502nd reported so far this year on the state's highways.
