CAVE JUNCTION, OR : Two school buses involved in separate Josephine County crashes on Friday, February 3rd 2017
Police say two separate school bus crashes occurred in Josephine County Friday.
According to Oregon State Police, the first crash occurred at 8:10 a.m. on US-199 at the Kerby Mainline Road intersection.
Officials say a 1983 Chevrolet pickup driven by Humerto Peredecosta was traveling westbound on Kerby Mainline Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. He was struck in the intersection by a school bus.
The bus was an Illinois Valley School District bus operated by Greg Bennett. The bus was traveling southbound on US-199.
Neither of the drivers were injured during the collision. However, a school bus passenger was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Peredecosta was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
The second crash occurred at 2:30 p.m. on US-199 near milepost 15, about 15 miles west of Grants Pass.
The First Student school bus had dropped off the majority of its passengers and had one child on board. The bus had pulled into a gravel turnout to turn around.
Police say as the bus was stationary, a southbound 2006 Hyundai Tucson left the roadway for unknown reasons. The driver of the Hyundai over-corrected and crashed into the bus.
