Melbourne,FL : Motorcyclist dies in Merritt Island crash on December, Thursday 7th 2017

A motorcyclist was killed in a vehicle crash on North Courtenay Parkway near Venetian Way in Merritt Island late Thursday afternoon, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Shariff Elsamaloty, 24, was traveling in the northbound lane on Courtenay Parkway when a 2006 Dodge pickup truck traveling in the southbound lane attempted to make a left turn onto Venetian Way. The teenage driver of the truck pulled in front of Elsamaloty, who was riding a 2012 Harley Davidson. Elsamaloty was ejected off the vehicle after the front of his motorcycle hit the right side of the truck, according to FHP.

Elsamaloty was not wearing a helmet, according to FHP. He died on the scene.

Troopers remained at the scene as of 5:50 p.m. for the investigation. Some lanes were blocked immediately following the crash, but have been reopened.

The incident is under investigation and charges are pending, according to FHP.
