BELEN, NM : A two-vehicle crash at Reinken Avenue on Tuesday, June 20, 2017

A two-vehicle crash at Reinken Avenue and Sixth Street in Belen Tuesday afternoon sent a Hub City woman to the hospital.

The Los Lunas man who hit her is in custody, suspected of driving under the influence.

Belen Police Chief Scott Conner said witnesses reported a gray four-door Ford Taurus was stopped at the red light in the westbound lane of Reinken at Sixth. It was driven by a 54-year-old Belen woman.

A white Chevy pickup, also westbound, crashed into her car as she sat at the light.

“Witnesses did report tires squealing at the last second before the crash,” Conner said.

The chief said the crash is still under investigation and the cause has not been determined.

William Taylor, 61 of Los Lunas, the driver of the pickup, was taken into custody by Belen police, and arrested on suspicion of DWI.

“There was an odor of alcohol in the truck,” the chief said. “Breath test results to determine a blood alcohol level are pending.”

The woman was transported to an Albuquerque hospital.
