Tempe, AZ : Suspected wrong-way driver arrested after crash in Tempe on Monday morning, April 27, 2015
A suspected wrong-way driver was arrested Monday morning after crashing her car in Tempe.
Imagine you're on the Loop 101 during very early hours and you see someone driving the wrong way on the freeway. You call 911 and that is exactly what happened.
Department of Public Safety officers saw the woman driving on Loop 101 heading northbound in the southbound lanes.
Officers say she exited the freeway around the Broadway area, hit some support cables for the Light Rail, crashed her vehicle and ran to the Desert Rest Motel.
The woman is described as being in her 20s. DPS says she was given a sobriety test as they believe alcohol is a factor in this case.
"We started receiving information that the vehicle had crashed at 101 and Apache Boulevard, we responded to that area, where witnesses placed a white female running from the vehicle," said Officer Kevin Watt. "We're still investigating why she ended up at this this hotel. It doesn't appear that she has any connection to anyone here."
No injuries were reported.
The woman, whose name has not been released, could face DUI, reckless driving and endangerment charges.
