Ruskin, FL : Car catches fire after crash on State Road 674 near Ruskin on Monday, November 10, 2014

Two drivers escaped injury Monday when they collided at the intersection of U.S. 301 and State Road 674 near Ruskin, triggering a fire in one of the cars. Lawrence MacAlister, 79, of Sun City Center was driving a 2006 Volvo east on 674, also known as Sun City Center Boulevard, when at 2:40 p.m. he drove into the path of a 2004 Nissan driven by Lauren Oakes, 30, of Wimauma, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. MacAlister hit Oakes' car on the driver's side as Oakes traveled north on 301. MacAlister's car then hit a road sign and light pole, FHP says. The light pole collapsed onto power lines, and the Nissan caught fire, FHP says. Neither driver was injured, nor was Oakes' infant daughter. The intersection was closed for two hours.
