Monroe,LA : Two dead after crashing into 18-wheeler in Madison Parish on January, Monday 29th 2018

Two people were killed and several others injured after a Ford F-250 work truck crossed the center line and crashed into an 18-wheeler early Monday in Madison Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F responded just after 5 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 65 in Madison Parish about 2 miles north of Louisiana 603 near the Tensas Parish line.

The initial investigation revealed a 2013 Ford F-250 was traveling north on U.S. 65 when, for reasons still under investigation, the F-250 crossed the center line and traveled into the path of an 18-wheeler that was traveling south.

The crash caused the driver of the F-250, Michael Shayne Butler, 38, of Jonesville, to be ejected. A passenger, Richard Hudnall, 36, of Jena, was partially ejected. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner’s Office.

One passenger in the F-250 received moderate injuries and two other passengers received minor injuries. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

The driver and a passenger in the 18-wheeler were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. They were both wearing a seat belt.

Toxicology samples were taken from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seat belt is the simplest and most effective step motorists can take to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Louisiana state law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day and night.

In 2018, Troop F has investigated three fatal crashes resulting in four deaths.
