New Smyrna Beach, FL : Port Orange Police officer injured, wife killed in motorcycle crash on U.S. 1 and Skyline Drive on Sunday morning, April 24, 2016

A Port Orange Police officer sustained life-threatening injuries and his wife was killed Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash, New Smyrna Beach Police say.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. on U.S. 1 and Skyline Drive in New Smyrna Beach, police said.

According to investigators, a green Toyota Prius driven by Lillian Wilson, 83, of New Smyrna Beach turned left from U.S. 1 onto Skyline Drive, while a motorcycle driven by Port Orange Police Officer David Fouts was southbound on U.S. 1. Wilson's Prius traveled into the path of the motorcycle, and the bike struck the vehicle's passenger side.

Fouts, 45, and his wife, Jennifer, 39, of Port Orange were ejected. Fouts suffered serious head and leg injuries, while his wife was pronounced dead at the scene.
David Fouts and Wilson, who also sustained a head injury, were taken to Halifax Hospital for treatment.

The crash is under investigation.
