Greenville,SC : Truck crash in Greenville injures one on January, Monday 22nd 2018
Greenville, South Carolina
A South Carolina man reportedly became ill moments before losing control of his truck and trailer Monday on Interstate 81, careening 1000 feet off the road and slamming onto Stover School Road below the interstate, Virginia State Police said.
The man was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Police said the truck, a Ford Super Duty F-250, was driven by Rusty A. Ward, 44, of Inman, South Carolina.
Ward was pulling a trailer and talking on his cellphone with his brother, who was driving in front of the truck. Ward's nephew was following the trailer, according to police.
Ward told his brother he wasn't feeling well and they decided to pull off at Exit 213. However, while the brother was looking in his rearview mirror, police said he saw Ward weaving and then lose control of the truck at mile marker 211.9.

Trooper A.J. Garasimowicz said the truck and trailer went off the right side of the road and crashed through a guardrail. Garasimowicz said it appeared the truck went airborne as it went over a steep embankment while the trailer dragged across the ground.
"The truck did a bellyflop on the hill," he said.
The truck landed 30 feet below next to an 1-81 overpass as it went across Stover School Road and went halfway up another embankment before finally coming to a stop. The truck and trailer, which was left blocking Stover School Road, were heavily damaged.
Garasimowicz said Ward was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash took place shortly before noon.
Stover School Road was closed while workers cleared the wreckage.
