Lee,FL : Midpoint Bridge reopens following crash on August, Wednesday 2nd 2017

The Midpoint Bridge was shut down Wednesday afternoon as crews removed power lines from the roadway following a serious crash.

It happened near the base of the bridge on the Fort Myers side; however, Cape Coral police also blocked the other side of the bridge.

Police said red Dodge Viper lost control on Colonial Boulevard in front of Royal Palm Square and crashed into a light pole.

Police told us a white car crossed in front of the Viper causing the driver to veer away and crash. The driver of the Viper was taken to the hospital. The condition of that person is unknown at this time.

Power lines fell across all lanes of Colonial and debris was also scattered on the roadway.

Fort Myers police officers were directing traffic, and Florida Power & Light was on scene as some lines were still live.

The bridge has since reopened, according to police.
