Macomb County, MI : Two people injured when SUV crashes in front of Macomb Twp. home early Monday, April 11, 2016

Alcohol is suspected in a high-speed crash early Monday that left an SUV perched on its side in a Macomb Township driveway.

Officials responded to a single-vehicle crash around 1 a.m. outside a home at Porta Marina Drive and Sanborn Drive, near Garfield Road between 21 and 22 Mile roads, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

A 2016 Ford Explorer had crashed with two 28-year-old male occupants trapped inside, officials said. Both driver and passenger were removed by first responders and transported by ambulance to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

“Deputies interviewed a witness who related that he observed the Ford Explorer traveling at a high rate of speed up Sanborn Drive immediately before the crash,” officials said in a statement. “The witness told deputies that he heard wheels screeching and the sound of the crash.”

In photographs released by the sheriff’s office, the dark-colored SUV could be seen on its side, directly in front of a brick home on the 16800 block of Porta Marina Drive. Portions of the front lawn appeared to have been churned up by the SUV’s wheels during the crash. The vehicle’s back tires landed inches from the home.

Officials executed a search warrant to obtain blood from the hospitalized driver and the analysis is pending. The man, a Macomb Township resident, faces possible charges of operating while intoxicated.

His identity is being withheld by officials until he is charged and arraigned.
