MONROE COUNTY, MI : Infant and 19-year-old dead in morning crash on Tuesday, 15th October 2024

An infant and a 19-year-old are dead after a crash Tuesday morning, authorities said.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on S. Custer Road, east of Lewis Ave., in Monroe County.

A baby girl who wasn’t named and 19-year-old Journee Padgett, of Jackson, Michigan, died from their injuries, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Padgett was driving east on S. Custer with a baby in the backseat when authorities said her car crossed the centerline, hitting a tractor with tandem trailers head-on. The sheriff’s office said it’s unknown why she went left of center, but neither alcohol nor speed appear to be a factor in the crash.
