Danville, PA : Man killed in Route 11 crash near Bald Top Road on Friday afternoon, January 27, 2017
The identity of the Danville man killed in a three-vehicle accident on Route 11 near Bald Top Road on Friday afternoon has been released. Two others injured in the crash were listed in critical condition Saturday.
Lester Aucker, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene, Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn said Saturday. His name was not released Friday because his family had not been notified.
Aucker was the passenger in a vehicle driven by Terry Johns, 56, of Danville, who was listed in critical condition Saturday in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Lynn said Johns had just left Northumberland, where he picked up Aucker at work. Johns was driving Aucker home, the coroner said.
A third man, Jacob Ackley, 19, of Sunbury, also was listed in critical condition at Geisinger on Saturday.
The accident, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m., involved three vehicles. Two of them struck head-on and a third slammed into the rear of one of the vehicles, according to Lynn.
Route 11 in the area of the crash reopened at about 7:40 p.m. Friday after being closed for five hours.
No other details about the crash were released as the investigation continues.
The fatal crash is the fourth in the Valley in 2017. Maryann Victor, of Wilkes-Barre, was killed Jan. 14 on Route 54 in Northumberland County. Robert Manotti Sr., of Mifflinburg, died Jan. 17 on Sportsmens Club Road in western Union County. Donald Bowers, of Hughesville, died Jan. 23 on Route 54 in Montour County.
