Two men were flown due to injuries from a one-vehicle crash on Old Route 344 in Salem Township Sunday morning.
The highway patrol is investigating the crash which occurred at about 5 a.m.
The 2005 Mazda 3 was traveling northeast on the road just north of Franklin Square when it appeared the driver lost control on the snowy roadway, sending the vehicle off the left side of the road where it struck a guardrail and a cement retaining wall.
The driver, David Sheely, 27, of Columbiana, was seriously injured. Both he and the seriously injured rear passenger, Devin Decker 29, of Columbiana, were flown by Stat Medivac to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown. Neither man was wearing his seat belt, the patrol said.
The front seat passenger, Allison Grossen, 31, of Columbiana, reportedly was wearing her seat belt and received minor injuries. She was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT EMS.
Several crews assisted at the scene — KLG, EMT and Leetonia Fire and Rescue.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the patrol.
However, the report also notes the patrol encourages everyone to wear the safety belts and slow down during inclement weather.
