The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning that claimed the life of a cyclist.
Troopers responded at approximately 2:40 a.m. Saturday to U.S. 278 near Queens Way in Beaufort County where a cyclist was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved in the accident was burgundy or maroon in color and may have damage to the driver's side bumper, grill and hood area. There may also be windshield damage, they say. The exact make and model of vehicle are unknown.
The identity of the cyclist killed in the crash has not yet been released.
