Antioch,CA : Motorcyclist dies in crash near Antioch Bridge on August, Saturday 26th 2017
A Brentwood man is dead after losing control of his motorcycle Saturday night while merging onto a highway.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 8:28 p.m. to a report that a motorcyclist had crashed on southbound State Route 160 at the Wilbur Avenue on-ramp.
The biker, a 54-year-old Brentwood resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the man’s identity.
The man reportedly struck a “small but definite curb” while crossing over the “gore point” — a triangular area that separates through traffic from drivers joining the flow — and the impact catapulted him off his bike, said CHP spokesman Officer Brandon Correia. A sedan immediately hit the motorcyclist and another vehicle crashed into his bike, he said.
The drivers of both vehicles stopped and cooperated with officers. Several other motorcyclists who were traveling with the victim disappeared before police and medical personnel arrived, however.
“Unfortunately that does happen more than you would think,” Correia said.
Whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the accident remains unclear. The CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or saw what led up to it on Wilbur Avenue to call its Martinez office at 925-646-4980 and ask for Officer T. Johnson.
