Gary, W.V : Six miners injured in McDowell accident on Thursday, February 16, 2017

Inspectors with the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Heath, Safety and Training are investigating an accident at a McDowell County mine which injured six people.

The West Virginia Department of Commerce has confirmed that there was an incident Thursday at XMV #39 Mine near Gary, according to Emily N. Amos, director of account and client relations. Initial reports indicated that two mantrips had collided.

According to a report from MetroNews, Delegate Ed Evans, D-McDowell, told fellow House members Friday that both miners and maintenance workers were injured.

A total of six miners were injured and transported to Welch Emergency Hospital, Amos said. All individuals have since been released.

Inspectors from the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training are investigating. The mine has returned to normal operations.
