Bluefield,WV :High-speed car chase results in crash, arrests on January, Wednesday 24th 2018
A high-speed chase that started in Princeton and involved numerous police vehicles ended in a crash at the intersection of Princeton Avenue and Grassy Branch Road in Bluefield Wednesday night.
No one was injured in the crash and two people were taken into custody, facing several charges, said. Lt. J.D. Halsey with the Princeton Police Department.
“There was female driver and a male occupant,” he said. “She had no driver’s license and there was narcotics and a weapon found in the car.”
Halsey said the car crashed traveling east on Princeton Avenue, trying to turn right onto Grassy Branch, but not making the turn and slamming into a guardrail.
The pursuit started just after 9 p.m. when a Princeton police officer attempted to pull over a blue sedan for a traffic violation, he said.
“The car took off and went on Old Bluefield Road, Glenwood Park Road to Green Valley and Maple Acres and then Airport Road,” he said, adding that officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and the Bluefield Police Department all joined the pursuit.
The car made it to Rt. 52, then took a left toward Bluefield, getting on Bluefield Avenue and then Princeton Avenue before crashing, he said.
“We also called Tazewell County because we thought it may head in that direction,” he said.
Halsey said the pursuit made many turns.
“I think I’ve been all over the county,” he said.
The occupants, who were not identified, were taken into custody without incident and taken back to Princeton.
“They are facing a lot of charges,” he said. “The investigation will continue.”
