Shawnee, OK : Macomb man injured in SH 9 crash with semi on Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2017
A Macomb man was injured Tuesday afternoon when his pickup was clipped by a tractor-trailer rig and rolled along SH 9 at Walker Road.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said that accident occurred just before 4 p.m. near Pink.
Therman L. Elmore, 90, of Macomb, was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup westbound and was attempting to make a left turn onto Walker Road, the OHP said.
A westbound 2007 Peterbilt semi driven by Yonas T Negash, 28, of Georgia, was "following too closely behind" and could not slow in time, the parol reported. The semi tried to pass on the left and struck the Ford Ranger in the rear, troopers reported, which caused the pickup to go off the roadway and roll 1.5 times before it came to rest on its top.
The OHP said Elmore was transported by REACT EMS ambulance to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with head, trunk internal, trunk external, arm and leg injuries. He was listed in critical condition, the OHP said.
Negash was not injured.
Cause of the collision was listed as following too closely. The patrol said seat belts were in use by Negash but not in use by Elmore.
The crash was investigated by Trooper Joe Porter of the Pottawatomie/Lincoln County Detachment of Troop A, with assistance from several other troopers, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office, Pink Fire Department, Tecumseh Fire Department and REACT ambulance.
