ROCKFORD, IL : Motorist in rollover accident in Rockford on Sunday, October, 29th 2017

A man in his 80s sustained life-threatening injuries after his vehicle rolled over Sunday afternoon in the 5500 block of Forest Hills Road.

Police said he was the only person inside the heavily damaged red two-door vehicle.

Witnesses told police the man was traveling north in the curb lane when he tapped the rear bumper of gold-colored Cadillac SUV. The red vehicle then swerved, crossed the median and both southbound lanes, and flipped over the southbound curb, coming to a rest on its top in the grass at the north end of the Mondelez International gum factory.

The man was taken to a Rockford hospital, Rockford Police Lt. Andre Brass said. The motorists in the Cadillac SUV were not injured.

The accident is under investigation.
