Pine Bluff, AR : White Hall man hit and killed by a vehicle in Martha Mitchell Expressway at University Drive on Thursday morning, September 1, 2016
A White Hall man was killed early Thursday morning when he was hit by a vehicle while walking across the Martha Mitchell Expressway at University Drive.
According to police, Kerry D. Mooney was crossing the highway from the south side and was wearing dark clothing. He was approximately 32-feet east of the designated crosswalk.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley pronounced Mooney dead at 4:38 a.m. and listed the cause of death as multiple blunt force trauma. The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office Thursday for an autopsy.
Traffic Officer Travis Goforth said in the accident report that Mooney was hit by a vehicle that was eastbound in the right hand lane. The driver told police that after he went through the intersection at University Drive, he struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle also said he did not see the pedestrian before impact.
Lt. David De Foor said in a press release that the driver of the vehicle was released at the scene and there is no indication that any charges will be filed against the driver.
The accident was reported at approximately 4:07 a.m.
