Marion,OR : Two fatal, single-vehicle crashes on I-5 Saturday on August, Saturday 26th 2017

Aug. 27--An Albany man died after his 1995 Ford Explorer crashed around 3 a.m. Saturday, heading southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 243, police said.

Ricardo Lemus, 27, was driving alone and no other car was involved, according to the Oregon State Police.

The single vehicle crash in Marion County is being investigated. The driver of the SUV lost control and overturned in the median. He was ejected and died at the scene.

Traffic was slowed to one lane for approximately three hours.

In another fatal single-vehicle crash on I-5 Saturday, Bruce Anthony Curtis, 58, of Grants Pass veered off the highway in his 2000 BMW after taking the 33 northbound off ramp in Central Point before 6 p.m., Oregon State Police Central Point exit.

He drove into a field adjacent to the freeway, and the car rolled over and landed on its top.

Police said witnesses reported being passed by the BMW at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Curtis dead on scene.
