NEW BEDFORD, MA : 2 school buses involved in New Bedford crash on Monday, 13th May 2024

Three people were hurt in a crash that involved two school buses and a pickup truck in New Bedford.

Crews responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. Monday in the area of Sutton and Harvard streets.

The two people in the truck and one of the bus drivers suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Thirty-four children on the buses were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution, but there were no injuries reported among them.

Brandi Montanez, who lives nearby, just graduated nursing school and told 12 News she ran to make sure everyone was safe.

“The bus driver was talking to someone on the radio and all the kids were standing up. I announced, ‘Is everyone OK? Is anyone hurt?’ They all looked around and said ‘no’ so I jumped off the bus to go back to the truck because the truck started smoking and I had to get them out,” she recalled.
