A Michigan man died from injuries suffered in the collision Thursday night of a pickup truck and semitrailer on Indiana 63 near Cayuga.
Killed in the accident about 6:45 p.m. was the pickup truck driver, Michael J. Leach, 47, of Howell, Michigan.
Vermillion Sheriff Mike Phelps said Kamaljeet Sangra, 41, of Ontario, Canada, was driving a 2007 Freightliner southbound in the northbound lanes of Indiana 63 and went into the curve just south of the entrance to the Cayuga fairgrounds. His semi struck head-on a 2013 Ford Super Duty pickup truck driven by Leach.
Leach was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 10-year-old son was treated at a local hospital and released to his family.
Sangra was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated resulting in death, a Level 5 felony. He was held without bond in the Vermillion County Jail.
The northbound lanes of Indiana 63 were closed until about 12:10 a.m. Friday for accident reconstruction by Indiana State Police. Traffic was diverted at U.S. 36 with local traffic sent onto county roads.
