Columbus, OH : Woman dies after crashing into COTA bus on Friday, March 18, 2016

A woman who crashed into a stopped Central Ohio Transit Authority bus has died.

Columbus police said 42-year-old Tracy M. Hinkle was fatally injured after striking the back of the bus with her SUV at the intersection of Sullivant Avenue and Wheatland Avenue around 7 pm Friday.

Police are unsure what caused Hinkle and her 2005 Dodge Durango to crash into the COTA bus, which was stopped along the curb to load and unload passengers. She was taken by Columbus medics to Mount Carmel West, where she was pronounced dead.

Two pedestrians suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police.

Police said this is the 13th fatal traffic crash in Columbus this year.

Sullivant Avenue was closed between South Wheatland Avenue and South Oakland Avenue for several hours Friday evening as crews worked at the scene.

COTA has alerted its customers that Line 6 is being rerouted as a result of the crash. A time of restoration is unknown.
