Lusk, WY : One person is dead after semitrailer crash on Highway 51 on Saturday October 8 2016
One person is dead after a semitrailer veered off of Highway 51 and flipped over onto propane tanks Saturday afternoon, Campbell County officials report.
The crash happened east of Timber Creek Road near T&T Gun and Ammo. The driver was killed and the crash caused a propane fire and shut down the highway in both directions for several hours.
Dale Izatt, a division chief with the Campbell County Fire Department, said he had at least 12 firefighters working at the scene. It took about three hours to put the fire out and clean up the highway.
The crash happened sometime between noon and 1 p.m., Izatt said.
The driver was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m., said Campbell County Coroner Laura Sundstrom.
Sundstrom said her office was still working on an identification for the man killed in the crash, as well as determining a cause of death.
Both Sundstrom and Izatt said the Wyoming Highway Patrol is the primary agency working the crash.
Multiple attempts to contact the WHP before press time Saturday were unsuccessful.
