A man in a wheelchair died Tuesday after he was hit by a truck, the Florida Highway Patrol says.
The victim was identified as John Levien, 82.
The crash was reported just before 10 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 192 and International Drive in Kissimmee.
Levien was taken to Celebration Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the FHP said.
The crash is still under investigation.
The victim's family is devastated, as well as the truck driver and his family.
Levien's hat, glasses and picture frames purchased from the nearby Walgreens store were left behind in the roadway.
Troopers are investigating who had the right of way when the crash happened.
Levien's relatives said he was best known as Uncle Jack and was one of the first residents of Celebration.
Levien was so proud of his town that on every Founders Day, he was the first in line to hold the banner, year after year. His family said he was a die-hard Brooklynite, a real character and was loved by many.
