Stoddard, N.H : Londonderry man dies after ATV crash on Pitcher Mountain on Route 123 on Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2014

A Londonderry man was killed Saturday afternoon in Stoddard after falling off his ATV. Officials identified the man as Kenneth Degraw, 55 years old from Londonderry. The fatal crash happened on Pitcher Mountain on Route 123 around 3:30 p.m. "The gentleman was riding with some friends and somehow he fell off of the machine and then he succumbed to his injuries," said Sgt. Todd Szewczyk with New Hampshire Fish and Game. Authorities said Degraw was not wearing a seat belt or a helmet. Investigators said the victim had been with five other people but was separated from the group. They said the group found him unconscious and not breathing. The man died about 45 minutes after the incident happened. "They tried to give him some medical attention until emergency personnel came to the scene," Szewczyk said. Stoddard police, fire fighters, state police and Fish and Game employees responded to the scene. A cause for the crash is unknown. "We are investigating that now,” Szewczyk said. “There was evidence at the scene that we can utilize to find out what happened and we will be investigating that in the coming days.” Authorities have not released the name of the victim, but family members have been notified. Officials warn other ATV drivers to be careful. "We encourage everyone to do things safely when they are riding,” Stoddard Fire Deputy Chief Joseph Saricone said. “Make sure they have helmets and all of their safety gear and respect the speeds of where they are." Szewczyk encourages riders to always wear a helmet and make preparations in the event of an injury. “Have safety gear and medical gear with you as well so in case something happens you can help your friends and yourself,” Szewczyk said. Officials said the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy Saturday night to determine the cause of the death. Source : Londonderry man dies after ATV crash
