When South Elgin officers arrived, there was one male subject trapped in the vehicle, stated a news release from the police department. The South Elgin and Countryside Fire Department extricated the person – identified as Austin R. King later died of his injuries, stated the release, which noted a preliminary investigation revealed through witness accounts that the driver lost control of his 2006 Lexus and struck a ComEd electric pole.
The preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma, according to the Kane County Coroner's Office. Toxicology samples were obtained from the hospital and sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.
The South Elgin Police Department was assisted by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office with the accident reconstruction investigation and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management with traffic control.
