Lavon, TX : Three people killed after Van, car collide head-on on North Texas highway on Thursday, March 31, 2016

A van and a car slammed head-on into each other on a busy two-lane highway near Dallas, killing all three occupants of the car and seriously injuring all three occupants of the van.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday on Texas 78 just outside Lavon, a lakefront town about 30 miles northeast of Dallas.

DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel says the van was traveling south on the highway when for reasons unclear it veered into the opposing lane, slamming head-on into the sedan. The three occupants of the car were killed outright. The three in the van were airlifted to an unspecified hospital with what Haschel called serious injuries.
