Pottawattamie County, IA : Avoca woman dies in I-80 crash on New Year's Eve on Monday, 31st December 2018

A woman died in a traffic accident Monday night in Pottawattamie County after her vehicle overturned in a field west of Interstate 80.

Melanie Thompson, 46, was traveling westbound on I-80 a mile from the Iowa Western/Highway 6 Exit when, for an unknown reason, her vehicle left the roadway. The car went down an embankment and overturned, coming to a rest on its wheels in a field.

Authorities reported to the scene at about 6:30 p.m.


Thompson, of Avoca, was transported to CHI Health Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
