Somerset, KY: Woman killed, man seriously injured in crash on Ky. 80 in Somerset on Tuesday, July 28th 2015
A 69-year-old woman was killed and a man was seriously injured Tuesday in a crash near the intersection of Ky. 80 and Ky. 461.Pulaski County Coroner Clyde Strunk says the victim, Janice Patricia Weston, was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. at the scene. The man was flown to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
Coroner Strunk said as of 6:30p.m., the man was in critical condition.Pulaski County Sheriff's Deputy Karl Clinard said the crash was reported at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies say a man driving a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV was headed southbound on Highway 461 when he pulled into the path of a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Emmet
Smith, Jr., who was traveling east on Ky. 80. The vehicles collided.“Right now the investigation shows or kind of indicates that the SUV pulled in the path of a truck.
They were T-boned here in the intersection," Pulaski County Sheriff's Department Sergeant Jon William's said.Emmet Smith, Jr., 30, and Daniel V. Smith, 26, were
treated at the scene and transported by Pulaski County EMS to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Their condition was not immediately available.A woman who works near
the intersection where the accident happened said she has witnessed too many accidents in the very same location.“I think, if anything, reduce the speed. I mean that
could be your mother your father your kids. Reduce the speed. It’s like bad wrecks all the time. I mean I have seen so many people lose their lives," the woman said.
The investigation is ongoing.
