Orangeburg County, SC : Pedestrian struck and killed by car on SC Highway 210 near Bowman on Wednesday night, November 23, 2016

A person in Orangeburg was killed Wednesday night after being hit by a car, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the collision happened at about 6 p.m. Wednesday evening on SC Highway 210 near Bowman, SC.

A vehicle was traveling west on Hwy 210 when it hit a person in the roadway and then went off the right shoulder of the road into a field. Troopers say the driver of the car was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition.

The pedestrian died at the scene. Their identity has not been released by the coroner yet.

Troopers have not specified yet whether or not the pedestrian was lawfully in the roadway.

SCHP's MAIT team is investigating the collision.
