EDGERTON, MN : Two die in crash near Edgerton on Tuesday, December 27th 2016
Luverne residents Jerome Feist, 81, and Janice Feist, 79, were killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday in northeast Rock County.Rock County Sheriff Evan Verbrugge issued a press release Wednesday afternoon stating that his office received a 911 call at approximately 12:35 p.m. Tuesday regarding a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 180th Avenue and 241st Street that led to one of the vehicles being on fire.
Rock County Sheriff’s deputies, Edgerton Fire and Rescue, the Minnesota State Patrol, Jasper Fire and Rescue and Rock County Ambulance responded to the scene, with the Sanford Trauma 1 responding to Sanford Luverne.
Jerome Feist was traveling westbound on 241st Street in a 2006 Chevrolet HHR with passenger Janice Feist when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of 180th Avenue and collided with a southbound 2012 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer driven by Arlan Spronk, 51, of Holland.
The collision caused Spronk to skid and land on its passenger side, which then caused a fire in the semi.
The Feist vehicle also skidded and come to rest in the ditch.
Janice Feist was pronounced dead at the scene, while Jerome Feist was pronounced dead at Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Spronk was transferred to Pipestone Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Airbags were deployed in the Feist vehicle, and they were also wearing their seatbelts.
Spronk was wearing his seatbelt, and it is unknown if there was airbag deployment.
No alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
