A Junction City woman and her 5-year-old daughter were killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 near Grandview Plaza. Jessica Thompson, 26, was driving west in a Ford Five Hundred near Mile Marker 300 at about 11 a.m. when her vehicle was hit by a semi-truck driven by Steven Johnson, 42, Houston, Texas, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.
Johnson was driving east when his truck crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes, the report said. He wasn’t injured in the crash.
Thompson’s daughter, Leah Thompson, also was killed in the incident. Her 6-year-old son, Jaydon Thompson, was taken to Wesley Hospital in Wichita with disabling injures, the report said.
Johnson was the only one not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The accident closed both westbound lanes for most of the afternoon.
