Daytona Beach , FL : No injures reported in Car crash after vehicle went into the Halifax River on Friday afternoon, February 13th 2015
Daytona Beach police are investigating a car crash after a vehicle went into the Halifax River on Friday afternoon.
A white Dodge Charger went in the river off Rio Vista Avenue, east of Beach Street and north of the Main Street pier.
Police said the person driving the vehicle may have stolen it, and in trying to get away, lost control and drove into the river.
The driver, described only as a man, jumped out and fled on foot, investigators said.
Don Hanna was in his house and saw the vehicle roar by.
"All of a sudden, I hear this 'vroom.' So I go to the window and look out and there's a guy in the water in a car, and he jumps out of the car, then he jumps over the wall, then he runs around the corner," Hanna said. "The next thing I know, another guy comes up here in a little Volkswagen and he turns around and chases after the guy. Cop comes with motorcycle and he chases him."
"He went behind my house in my neighbor's yard and spun around and in another neighbor's yard, went flying through their yard, and then I saw the fire trucks coming," neighbor Ricci Ballard said.
