Webster Parish, LA : Two killed in a deadly head-on collision involving a car and a school bus at Louisiana Highway 159 on Wednesday, September 21st,2016
Webster Parish, Louisiana
Louisiana State Police and Webster sheriff's deputies are investigating a deadly head-on collision involving a car and a school bus.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on Louisiana Highway 2 a mile west of Louisiana Highway 159. That's between Sarepta and Shongaloo.
A 2006 Toyota Corolla being driven by 35-year-old Freddy Bryant, of Shongaloo, was traveling east on LA 2 at a high rate of speed, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers say Bryant for some reason lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and collide head-on with a 2000 Blue Bird school bus being driven
by 67-year-old Michael Timmons, of Sarepta.
Both vehicles came to a stop in the westbound lane shortly after impact, police say.
Bryant and passenger 29-year-old Gary Matlock, of Plain Dealing, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Timmons and the 47 students on the school bus were not injured.
Authorities say impairment is not suspected in the crash, but routine toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis.
The wreck had LA 2 just outside of Sarepta shut down for several hours, but it has since been reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
