Macon, GA : Major crash blocks I-16 in Laurens County on Monday, July 24, 2017

A major crash involving a tractor trailer blocked all lanes of Interstate 16 eastbound in Laurens County just before noon Monday.

The crash occurred at exit 52 for U.S. 441, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

A bridge at the overpass was damaged, and it may be an extended period of time before lanes re-open, GDOT said.

Traffic is flowing on the left shoulder to bypass the blocked lanes. Anyone traveling on I-16 toward Savannah is encouraged to take alternate routes.
