Groveland, FL : One woman dead and one man in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Groveland on Tuesday, April 12, 2016

One woman is dead and one man is in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Groveland Tuesday.

The collision threw the woman from her silver Pontiac Sunfire and sent the blue and silver GMC Jimmy flipping several times, according to Groveland police.

The woman died on the scene. The male motorist was alert at the scene, complained of pain and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Officers haven't release either name because they are pending notification of next of kin.
The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 27 at State Road 19 at about 5 p.m.
Police Sgt. Michael Ricci said the Pontiac was traveling south and making a left onto SR 19 when a northbound van attempted to make an illegal U-turn at the intersection. The van blocked the woman's view of the GMC behind it and she drove into the path of it.

The two vehicles collided, and the impact left both vehicles on the east shoulder of the highway and the passenger side of the Pontiac caved in.

Police diverted traffic for two hours as officers investigated the crash and cleared the highway of debris.
