Marietta, GA : Deadly in Paulding as two killed in separate wrecks on February, Monday 5th 2018
A Powder Springs man and an Acworth teen died Monday in two separate wrecks in Paulding County.
Timothy Starks, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene after a tractor-trailer struck his vehicle near WellStar Paulding Hospital in Hiram.
The wreck occurred just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 278 and Bill Carruth Parkway, a Georgia State Patrol spokesman said.
The State Patrol reported Starks’ vehicle, a Toyota Tundra, was sitting stationary in the left turn lane at a red light on westbound Hwy. 278. As an eastbound tractor-trailer approached the intersection in the passing lane of Hwy. 278, Starks “disobeyed a traffic-control device and failed to yield by turning left in front” of the tractor-trailer, a spokesman said.
The larger vehicle reportedly hit the Tundra in the right side with its front end in the intersection, the state patrol reported. Starks died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained from the impact, the patrol spokesman said.
Paulding Fire Department spokesman Lt. Steve Mapes said units from two stations worked to extricate Starks from the vehicle before he was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries and declined to be treated or transported, Mapes said.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Acworth girl was killed when her vehicle struck a tree on Rutledge Lane in northeast Paulding Monday afternoon, the Georgia State Patrol reported.
The crash occurred after the vehicle driven by Kathleen Carol Sutz was traveling west on Rutledge Lane in northeast Paulding County. It failed to maintain its proper lane, went off the roadway to the left and struck a tree with the left front side of the vehicle.
