17-year-old boy from far northwest suburban Huntley was charged after allegedly driving an SUV into a townhome's garage

A 17-year-old boy from far northwest suburban Huntley was charged after allegedly driving an SUV into a townhome's garage Monday afternoon, striking a gas line and rendering one of the building's units unihabitable.

About 4:44 p.m., the boy allegedly drove a 2007 Nissan Murano into a townhome in the 10900 block of Cape Cod Lane, according to a statement from Huntley police. When officers arrived, the vehicle was embedded in a garage. Two townhome units, a vehicle parked in the driveway and a gas line were also hit.

He was charged with not having a valid driver's license and failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident, police said.

The boy was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for minor injuries, police said. All residents evacuated and none were injured.

The Huntley Fire Protection District turned off the gas to the building and Nicor was also called to the scene. The Huntley Building Inspector deemed one of the six units uninhabitable.
