Philadelphia, PA : Woman critically injured after being ejected from a minivan that then landed on top of her after a multivehicle accident in Nicetown on Saturday, April 23, 2016

A woman was critically injured Saturday after being ejected from a minivan that then landed on top of her after a multivehicle accident in Nicetown, police said.

The accident happened about 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of 15th and St. Luke Streets.

Police said a 21-year-old man driving a 1999 Chrysler Town and Country minivan ignored a red light as he traveled east on St. Luke.

That caused a 2012 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, driven north on 15th by a 61-year-old man, to hit the minivan on its rear passenger side, police said.

The crash caused the minivan to flip over onto the driver's side and a female passenger inside it was ejected from the vehicle, which then came to rest on top of her, police said.

Passersby who heard the accident rushed to the scene and pushed the minivan off the woman, police said.

The woman, 20, was taken by medics to Einstein Medical Center with internal injuries.

Police said four other passengers in the minivan were also taken to Einstein, where they were listed in stable condition: A 12-year-old boy had leg pain; another boy, 15, suffered a nose cut; another boy, 16, complained of pain; and a 21-year-old man had a cut on his left arm, police said.

The drivers of both vehicles were not injured, police said.

The accident remains under investigation. Police said neither driver was suspected of driving under the influence.
