Gary, IN : 1 dead, several hurt in a two-vehicle crash in the area of East Fifth Avenue and Virginia Street on Monday, April 3, 2017

A woman died Monday after a two-vehicle crash that sent several people to a local hospital, officials said.

Sandra Rahim, 65, of the city's Miller section, was eastbound when the Nissan Sentra she was driving hit a parked Toyota Rav4 about 9:40 p.m. in the area of East Fifth Avenue and Virginia Street, officials said.

A passenger in Rahim's car said it appeared she might have had a medical issue before the crash, police said.

Rahim was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus, where she was pronounced dead at 10:13 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner's office.

The passenger in Rahim's car and two people in the Toyota also were taken to Methodist Northlake for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A final determination on Rahim's cause and manner of death were pending further investigation, a coroner's release said.
