Imperial,NE : Pedestrian hit by car in Aksarben area dies of injuries on December, Wednesday 20th 2017
A man who was struck by a car last week as he crossed a street in the Aksarben area of central Omaha has died, police said Wednesday.
Justin Swanson, 31, was hit about 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 by a 2002 Honda Accord whose driver had been drinking, police said.
The westbound Honda struck Swanson as he crossed Pacific Street at midblock, from north to south, near 68th Street, police said. Swanson’s alcohol use also contributed to the crash, police said. He lived in Omaha.
There is no crosswalk in the area where Swanson was struck.
The driver of the Honda, Esteban Conforte, 27, left the scene in the car before police arrived, authorities said. He called 911 about 15 minutes later to report that he may have stuck a person, police said. An officer found Conforte’s Honda near 66th and Seward Streets, and he was walking on a sidewalk in that block.
Conforte, of Omaha, was charged Friday with leaving the scene of an injury crash. The Douglas County Attorney’s Office will determine whether to charge him with other crimes. Police said in an affidavit that Conforte’s blood-alcohol content was .13 when it was measured at a police facility. The legal limit is .08 for driving in Nebraska.
