A 3-year-old boy was rescued from a stolen SUV, after the driver crashed the vehicle into a building in West Englewood, according to Chicago police.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene after in the 2000 block of West 59th Street around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle caught fire shortly after the crash.
A witness to the crash found the boy underneath the passenger seat, pulled him out and began CPR. A police sergeant assisted the Good Samaritan with CPR once first responders arrived at the scene. They were both able to resuscitate the child.
Paramedics stabilized him and he was taken to University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital. No word yet on the boy's condition as of 5 a.m. Monday.
Police were able to locate the 3-year-old's mother, who told them she knew the driver. Investigators said she also told them she knew her son was with the suspect at the time of the accident.
Police are searching for the driver. There is no one in custody yet.
