New Russia Township, OH : Lorain man dead and another injured in Route 58 crash early Monday morning, June 6, 2016
A Lorain man was killed and another was injured in an early-morning crash when he was trying to pass another car on State Route 58.
According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Christopher Newman, 27, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu south on Route 58 around 5:19 a.m. Monday when he tried to pass a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Lakieva Brisby, 24, also of Lorain. Police say Newman’s car struck Brisby’s car, and both went off the road. The Cobalt went through a field, and the Malibu struck a tree.
Brisby was uninjured in the crash. Newman was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, Jeffrey Newman, 47, also of Lorain, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with what the highway patrol called incapacitating injuries.
Police say both drivers were wearing their seat belts, but Jeffrey Newman’s seat belt use is unknown. The crash remains under investigation.
