Albany, GA : Two arrested after police chase ends with crash in Lee County on Thursday afternoon, March 9, 2017

A police chase that began in Dougherty County ended with an accident in Lee County and two men being arrested Thursday afternoon.

Maj. Prurince Dice, the commander of the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit, said ADDU officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a black Toyota Camry near the Superior Creek Lodge on North Slappey Boulevard shortly before 2 p.m. The driver refused to stop, instead crossing into Lee County.

After entering into Lee County, the car slammed into the back of the Troy University building on U.S. Highway 19, catching fire, Dice said.

The driver, Anthony Crapps, 24, has been charged with fleeing, suspended license, no insurance, obstruction and reckless driving. The passenger, John Lewis, 31, has been charged with obstruction, ADDU officials said.

Dice said one of the men indicated he had a warrant out against him, which was why the suspects did not stop their vehicle.

The Lee County Fire Department responded and put out the vehicle fire, while the Lee County Sheriff’s Office helped with apprehending the suspects. There were no injuries in the accident, and no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved.
