Port Hueneme, CA : Police look for hit-and-run driver who caused fatal Port Hueneme crash on Wednesday August 5th 2015
Port Hueneme police were looking Wednesday for a man suspected of causing a fatal crash the night before and fleeing the scene.
The crash was reported about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of West Channel Islands Boulevard.
Manuel Delgadillo Salazar, 57, was declared dead at the scene, police said Wednesday.
Police said the incident was originally reported as a solo crash, with a vehicle hitting a tree and two people trapped inside. Responding officers, however, discovered two autos were involved, and the driver suspected of causing the crash had fled the scene, police said.
Rescue crews from the Ventura County and Oxnard fire departments responded and freed two people trapped inside the vehicle that hit the tree. The female driver was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Delgadillo was a passenger in that vehicle.
The victims’ vehicle apparently crashed into the tree only after being hit by another vehicle. The driver of that second vehicle ran away and left behind a female passenger.
The driver was described as a man wearing a black hooded sweater. He was last seen running north across Channel Islands Boulevard, police said.
